DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: Develop and implement childcare programs that support and promote the physical, cognitive, emotional, and social development of children Lead activities by telling or reading stories, teaching songs, taking children to local points of interest, and providing opportunities to express creativity through media of art, dramatic play, music, and physical activity Plan and maintain an environment that protects the health, security and well-being of children Ensure the program compliance with all Ministry and program standards. i.e., CCEYA Able to implement the four foundations of “How Does Learning Happen” through observations, reflections, documentation, and curriculum planning Recognize and respond to the needs of each child by using developmentally appropriate teaching and child behaviour management techniques Assess the abilities, interests, and needs of children and discuss progress or problems with parents and other staff members Observe children for signs of potential learning or behavioural problems and prepare reports for parents, guardians, or supervisor Share responsibility for maintaining program equipment in good repair; assist with toy/equipment disinfecting Engage and work collaboratively as a team member in caring for the children and the overall operation of the program; maintain regular and open communication with peers and all other co-workers Follow and implement health and safety through the uses of a variety of tools including daily observation forms, sanitary practices forms, medication forms, and the environmental assessment tools Guide and assist children in the development of proper eating, dressing and toilet habits Maintain a high level of professionalism at all times Creative, hard-working team player, energetic, and flexible Participate and interact in team meetings and workshops Other classroom and centre duties as required by Supervisor QUALIFICATIONS The successful candidate must meet the following requirements: Formal training in Early Childhood Education from a recognized College or University Member of the College of ECE's, in good standing by the Ministry of Education Minimum 2 years of experience in a licensed childcare facility Speaking languages of the served community, as well as bilingual francophone speaking applicants, is a great asset. This position requires long hours of standing, walking, bending, crouching, kneeling, and lifting Professional team player who is committed to the growing and learning of each child Possess strong leadership and organizational skills Strong communication and interpersonal skills (oral and written) Effective classroom management skills Positive attitude, enthusiasm, and a passion for working with children Standard First Aid/CPR Level C Updated Immunization record Current TB test (within 6 months) Recent vulnerable sector police record check Hi-Mama parent app communication experience is an asset Current Food Handlers certificate is an asset
