Job Description

Employee Tasks: - Plan or adjust routes based on changing conditions, using computer equipment, global positioning systems (GPS) equipment, or other navigation devices, to minimize fuel consumption and carbon emissions - Professionalism in customer service - Arrange travel, related itineraries and make reservations - Drive as part of a two-person team or convoy - Load and unload goods - Operate and drive straight or articulated trucks to transport goods and materials - Oversee condition of vehicle and inspect tires, lights, brakes, cold storage and other equipment - Perform brake adjustments - Perform emergency roadside repairs - Perform pre-trip, en route and post-trip inspection and oversee all aspects of vehicle - Perform preventive maintenance - Receive and relay information to central dispatch - Record cargo information, hours of service, distance travelled and fuel consumption - Tarping and ensuring safety and security of cargo. Education Needed: - Secondary (high) school graduation certificate. Experience: - 1 year to less than 2 years. Transportation experience: - International - Long-haul - National - Provincial/territorial Certificates, licensees and permits required: - Air Brake (Z) Endorsement - Driver's License (Class 1 or A) - Legally allowed to work in Canada. Documentation knowledge: - Accident or incident reports - Bill of lading - Driver logbook - Inspection report (pre-trip, en-route, post-trip) - Maintenance and repair reports - Trans-border documentation - Trip reports Work conditions and physical capabilities: - Attention to detail - Large workload - Physically demanding - Repetitive tasks - Sitting
